As many of us learn a new way of living during the ongoing worldwide pandemic, employers have had to find ways to retain and appreciate their employees. Read this story of a creative business owner with a real heart.

During the early days of the Coronavirus pandemic, MERCURY ERRANDS received a call from the owner of Commonfont, a small software company in Bozeman. This owner wanted to show appreciation for all of her 25 employees working remotely from home, working to keep her business viable and operating. She came up with a novel idea to show her appreciation: why not let them have cupcakes from a popular Bozeman bakery? 🙂

She hired MERCURY ERRANDS to pick up the cupcakes and deliver them to each of her employees’ homes. Mind you; these were not just any cupcakes. They were large with a thick layer of icing, one chocolate and the other vanilla with pieces of fresh strawberry on top of the frosting. Each of the $5.00 cupcakes was packaged in its own box with a cellophane display window. 

I drove into town and picked up the cupcakes and began to make my deliveries. I dropped off the ‘treats’ one right after the other, which created quite the ‘company party effect.’ In fact, during one of the earlier deliveries, an employee told me that a fellow colleague had already just tweeted his teammates, raving about how awesome the cupcakes were. It was a lot of fun to see the expressions of these employees when the cupcakes were delivered. 

The job took four hours to complete as I had to deliver some of the cupcakes to outlying neighborhoods. However, sometime later, the owner told me how everyone so loved and appreciated her thoughtful gesture, and the joy of the experience helped to relieve the stress of this unprecedented at-home business model.

My client thanked me for getting the job done in a timely and professional manner and added a generous gratuity in her payment for my services. I was happy to have been a part of this unique party. 🙂
