Propping Up a Photo Shoot

Errand, delivery, and courier services in the greater Bozeman, Montana area.

In this series of anecdotes, the owner of MERCURY ERRANDS, James, relates to you a few of the experiences that make MERCURY ERRANDS what it is…a business dedicated to serving its customers. Here we go: Enjoy!

Close to the end of winter last year, I was hired by a San Diego interior design studio to pick up and transport new patio furniture: a wicker couch, its cushions, a table, large floral arrangements, and six 4-foot evergreen trees rented from a Bozeman nursery. These were all for a photo shoot that was to occur on the outdoor patio of a sprawling mountain home located in a wealthy gated community in Big Sky, Montana. Big Sky is known for skiing, its wildlife, hot springs, and gushing geysers, and sits at 7,510 feet. It’s a beautiful area.

To accommodate the amount of cargo I had to transport, both of our delivery vehicles were required. Before loading up, the furniture had to be removed from the original boxes to make it all fit in the larger van. Then the flowers and conifers were carefully placed in both vans to prevent any damage occurring en route. Little did we know that it would take two consecutive days to deliver all the props, as well as the following day to pick up and return the rented trees.

For the trip on the second day, there was a sunny, blue sky, and the mountain roads had barely any snow remaining. We arrived at the beautiful home set in the mountains of Big Sky. We unloaded quickly.  Once the unloading was completed, the project coordinator expressed his gratitude to us for facilitating the prompt and safe delivery of the valuable cargo. In parting, he expressed his hope, with fingers crossed, that Mother Nature would cooperate by bringing some fresh snow overnight – and she did!

On the third day, when I arrived to pick up the rental trees, I was awestruck to witness several inches of new snow that had fallen overnight. Even Mother Nature had delivered her own prop for the photo shoot: a crystal white blanket of snow.
